This is pritty much my first linux attempt. I picked this option becasue it sounded simple and I'd be able to do it with litttle hastle. Oh, how I was wrong!

Right I'm using Jetway board with the VIA CN700 Chip. Here's my story so far:

Built system, great, not instabilities during Post and hardware seems fine. Inserted disk and ran the TV install option. Got it wrong the first time from not having the HDD on IDE1. But thats over and done with, PnoppMyth installed on the disk and happily rebooted, but here's where the trouble starts...

Once it starts X the TV display flickers horribly. So first peice of advice I get is to swap the xorg.conf file for the nvidia sample which I do (admitidly thinking "but its not an NVidia chip?"). Unsurprisingly this really doesn't work. As I get a message saying "ID 7 keep respowning" of something.

I've been doing some hard searching in here and alot of googling. It sounds like plenty of people got it working but I either don't understand their methods or they havn't documented it.

So can anyone give me a quick guide on how to get this working, baring in mind I'm pritty novice.

I'm quite encouraged by that.

At the moment I believe that the problem lies with my xorg.conf file.

I have 2 displays atm, a PAL-I tv and an old LCD monitor. When I start X the TV flickers horribly and the LCD says the refresh rate is out of range. Can anyone give me some tips for getting the TV to stop flickering?

If you can restore your original xorg.conf file, does the LCD monitor work?

Lawrence...

as a general comment, I would like to encourage you to keep at it. While a troublesome Myth installation is quite a challenging way to wade into Linux, you'll learn quickly and hopefully be amazed at the control you have over your system when all is said and done. You are rarely the only--or first--person to have a particular problem, so most things can be solved, and in the process you will have figured out just what is going on under the hood.

I ran across your post while troubleshooting my own problems with an upgrade, but I have been using Myth for a few years, and love it.
