What exactly is the frontend connecting to?

My understanding is that it is just connecting to the mythbackend using port 6543? And get's all info from the backend?

It doesn't connect directly to the mysql server does it?
Nor does it need a samba share does it?

tx...

Hey Nigel,
any update on your thoughts with this? I read a thread that said bad checksum might be cause by gigabit controllers using onboard checksum calcs.. I tried disabling this on the linux box, and still got erros.. I didn't want to mess with my mac, and screw something up.. All networking seems to be working fine, and I see bad checksum on almost everything....
by installing 20fixes and using the same database (just doing a "make install" in my 20fixes source directory, and using a 20fixes frontend and the mac, myth works..
I'm pretty convinced this is an svn problem.. I don't have anything but other macs to test on.. Otherwise I'd try with a true linux remote frontend, which I am assuming works on the svn or others would be mentioning it...

tx.

Sadly, yes it does. Firstly, to find out the IP address of the master backend, and later on, for settings like the window size, theme, et c.

It connects to the backend for the actual TV (live and recordings), but everything else is in the MySQL database.

I still haven't managed to reproduce the fault :(

ok.. well that was an easy fix..

DBPort default at 6543

but mysql default port is to listen at 3306

with 20fixes even though DBPort is set at 6543 in mysql.txt it still finds the mysql server at 3306

with svn it doesnt find mysql server..

Changed

DBPort to 3306 and it works..

guess I should have tried since the file is mysql.txt.,
but everywhere I've read said nothing about making the mysql database accessable over the network... just talked about the backend, and always makes reference to the backend running at 6543... (didn't understand why it was called mysql.txt but even more odd is the fact that 20fixes frontend would mysteriously find the mysql database, or at least appeared to because it worked (even though the database port was set incorrectly)

Anyhow.. Thanks so much... It's WORKING!!!

I saw the DBPort line in your mysql.txt, but it didn't register as anything unusual (should have looked more closely, as none of my mysql.txt files contain it!)

The DBPort line is a newish feature (since r11251). 0-20-fixes is using r11053 of mythcontext.cpp.

Glad you worked it out!
