It won't change as far as I'm aware.

Here's a new gas station, but you need to upgrade your car.

That's a little harsh. Better would be "Here's a new gas station, but you need to slightly modify the filler spout"

No, the whole analogy doesn't work for me. You need fuel for your car, you don't need schedules for Mythtv. SD is more like a fuel additive if anything...

Technically you don't need fuel for your car. You could just sit in it in the driveway and play with the navigation system or listen to the stereo. You could even roll it down a hill and then push it back up.

Which is kinda similar to mythtv without listings.

If you would rather push your car uphill to manually scheduling a recording... there is no sense pursuing this conversation.

Backup and upgrade to R5Fx when it comes out. If you want to do it manually, you'll have to grab the latest -fixes from SVN.

I know we aren't supposed to ask when the next version is or isn't coming out.

I currently don't have a system up and running (had a hardware failure earlier in the summer and just haven't gotten around to rebuilding with the known ending of zap2it and general "summer things" filling my time it's become less of a priority.

I would happily wait a month or so and just install a new version if it's seeming like it'll be out soon. I am not real excited at the idea of installing, tweaking the exisitng version to make it work with SD and then 3 days later finding out that the new version has been released. I know an upgrade should be easy and quick, but somehow I've managed to botch the upgrade anytime I've tried it in the past and I'm not completely confident in my ability to smoothly upgrade.

It will save me lots of work to wait for the new version if it's close. If it's still far, then I would go through the hoops of getting things running with the current version. A simple "I'd suggest waiting" or "you'll be waiting a while" is all I'm looking for here, if that's not asking too much.

Perfect, assuming that is still mostly on track, I'll happily wait. Even if it's a week or 2 into Sept, I'd say it's worth my trouble to just wait. Thanks for digging that up for me.

Technically, you need fuel to provide power for the gadgets. What do you think spins the alternator and charges the battery?

well.. if the car were a manual transmission and in gear, pushing it down the hill could charge the battery ;)

True. Don't forget to remove the valves (or the pistons) to reduce pumping losses in the engine.
