Ok, I would have thought I could at least get to the install program... I'm having problems with the KnoppMyth CD booting up in my new system. I downloaded the ISO, checked the md5sum, and burned it to a CD. When I boot it up in the new system, it says "INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". I've checked the boot sequence and it looks fine.... I even put in the Fedora disks and those boot up. I even tried putting the KnoppMyth CD in my OTHER system and it boots up in that system OK. So, I am at a loss.... anyone run into this problem? Or have a suggestion as to what I can try?

Here's my system specs:
ASUS A7V600
Athlon XP 2600+
512 MB DDR RAM

Thanks,
Kevin

I'm having the same problem with the 4.1 iso. Other boot-cd's (Debian, WinXP, et al.) work fine, but this one just refuses to boot. Have you had any luck since making your post?

Did either of you verify the MD5SUM? If so, I'd suggest burning at a lower speed.

Yeah.. MD5SUM verified.. before verifying it, I also downloaded the .ISO from 3 different mirrors, with the same results for each one. All were burned at 2x speed on the very same (erased) CD-RW that I used to burn the Debian install .ISO, and it worked fine. My burner won't do 1x, or I would have tried that. :(

Additionally, I have a burner and a regular ol' CD-ROM drive in the computer I'm having trouble cd-booting. In the plane ol' CD-ROM drive, the Bootable CD detection at the end of the BIOS goes through quickly (and on to the Hard Drive  ) But in the burner, the BIOS just sits there for ~1 minute trying to decide if the CD is bootable or not, before going on to the HD. Very strange behavior.

For reference:
burner that won't boot KnoppMyth: Memorex 4x2x24
plain ol' drive that won't boot KnoppMyth: Acer 50x

I forgot to mention that I saw a similar topic elsewhere, in which the person having trouble booting KnoppMyth tried 3 different CD drives before he found one that worked for his cd/motherboard/bios/whatever. I don't have any unused CD drives at the moment, but if my manual install of MythTv doesn't go well (and it isn't so far! I'm a linux n00b in the truest sense of the word :() then I may swap out one of those generic drives for something else... I'll keep you posted. (haha.. get it? POSTed?? ha....ha.... hehe (uncomfortable silence))

A7V600 sounds like a Via KT600 based system!?
This is not an answer to your original question, but you might run into problems getting Linux/KnoppMyth running on that system :(
I had to dump my KT600 board since I couldn't get it running stable. See KT600 thread in the tier-3 forum...

good luck

I extracted the isolinux and KNOPPIX directories from the .iso, and also copied out the boot information (using WinISO). I then re-assembled the .iso file from the boot info and the extracted directories. The finished .iso was 304kB smaller than the downloaded copy.

I burned my re-created KnoppMyth R4 V4.1 .iso to a cd and viola! A little progress...

Now the computer will boot to the CD, but it stops after displaying one line:

1. FD 1.44MB System Type-(0F)

I'm going to try another CD drive next, but any other suggestions are always appreciated! TIA :-)

CD-RW. Try burning that on a CD-R. I'm saying 75% chance it fixes your problem

I forgot to mention that I put it on a CDR (not RW). Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Additionally, I tried the original .iso on a CDR in 4 different CD drives with the original same results (no boot at all). Then--I thought of re-building the .iso. I tried it with one of the drives, and made the progress listed in my last post. It was late, and I really didn't feel like taking down my two other computers again to try the CDR in their 3 drives, so I gave up for the night.

My on my next attempt, I'll swap those drives out again to see if I have better luck.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

The thing I didn't try: Burning the .ISO in a different burner.

It worked like a charm when I burned the .ISO in my new laptop's burner. Previously I had been using an old 4x HP burner with the crappy results. Everything booted and installed fine after that. I'm having problems downloading my TV Listings, but that's a topic for another err.. topic :D

Thanks for the great feedback!!!

I've been reading the posts and I'm also having problems booting from my CD. I used Nero 6 Ultra's Image Drive to extract tthe data from the ISO I downloaded. Do I put the contents of both directories on the root of hte CD? I downloaded 4.1 and currently have Windows XP Pro installed and don't really care if the data is blown away. I just want the CD to boot.
Judging by this post, I'm sure you know I know very little about Linux. Any help given would be awesome. Thanks!

The bootable part of the .iso is not extractable. That is to say, Nero must take the .iso and burn it directly to the CD as an image. You won't be able to extract the files from the .iso and burn them manually to a CD, it's all or nothing.
