My other thread seems to have died, so I'm starting up a new one on this problem.

I'm having trouble getting MythTV to play the TV signal out through the PVR-350 TV-OUT. It worked one time and I haven't been able to repeat it since then.

I currently have an e-machine, 2.7GHz Celeron with 256M memory, built-in video and sound. It's got a Viewsonic LCD monitor attached, a PVR-350 installed, and a 200G hard drive. It also has a built-in ethernet port and a wireless card, a WMP-54GS. I've installed KnoppMyth R4V4 in it.

MythTV works fine. The remote works. I even have, thanks to help from this forum, a version of XF86Config-4 that I can use that will put X and the mythtv frontend on the TV. Even then I can't get playback on the TV.

I'm perpelexed. Please post any ideas as to what to look for.

Thanks ahead of time for your patience and help.

More information.

Someone suggested that I disconnect the monitor that I had connected to the system to see if that made the TV playback work. It did, sort of. I can play back recorded programs if I have the PVR-350 decoding turned OFF, but the quality is awful. It looks like it's too slow to update the picture and blocks of it go in and out of sync with the rest of the picture. If I try to watch live TV I can see a few seconds and then it freezes. If I try to restart it I get a message saying that the backend is down. When I check the backend log it says that it couldn't find any tv input for 15 seconds so it died.

What am I doing wrong? Please help!

So if I understand you correctly you can watch TV although very jerky with the PVR-350 option turned off. When you turn it on all you get is a black TV? Did you try this? This worked for me when I had this problem.

Code:
To solve this delete /dev/fb0autodetect and /dev/fb1 and create a new fb1:
mknod /dev/fb1 c 29 1
chmod 666 fb1
chown video fb1

I'll try this later this evening, don't have time tonight. Do you know why this is supposed to work?

This didn't work. In fact, it seemed to move things a step backwards. With the changes suggested, the system doesn't even show the mythtv frontend on the TV, just a black screen.

Perhaps is you could explain why you think those changes would help it would help me or someone else figure out another approach.

I'm sorry I don't have much time right now, but I will be happy to post step my step instructions in the next few days. I have managed to get a very stable TV out.

Although, my first step for you is. "Stick in your KnoppMyth R4v4 CD and wipe out what you already have."

Again I'm pressed for time now but I will post this in a day or two.

I have video at around 3 fps after installing KnoppMyth again (R4V5) with PVR-350 (old school one). I tried the fix listed above and enabling DMA and the other things I could find in the forums. Is there something I"m missing? Should I try the reinstall of the ivtv drivers (hate to mess with it if I don't need to).

Any suggestions?

Or step #3 "Turn on hardware decoding" in this post. Be sure to watch for the dreaded black screen after that is fixed.

Let us know if you get it working.
