To save on electricity, I recently set up nvram-wakeup to start/shutdown as needed. I've got nvram-setup working great. Starts/stops just as expected.

But I've noticed an issue I wouldn't have expected. Prior to setting up nvram-wakeup, my CPU temp was consistenly 38C-45C (depending if it was idle, I was watching HD content, or the air cond. wasn't running in the house). I had this system running nearly 24-7 for about 2 years.

Now with nvram-wakeup, my CPU temp will jump into the mid 40's to mid 50's after a wakeup (even if idle or recording HD). Temp reported by BIOS matches temp reported by rrdtool.

I can reset this behavior by doing a shutdown and manual restart, but it starts again if nvram-wakeup takes over with auto shutdown/startup.

Is it nvram-wakeup that's causing this? My mb isn't natively supported so I had to use the wizard/config file to get it to work.

I'm running R5E50 (with updates for SD)

I'm sure I haven't provided enough information about my system (please ask)

Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen a somewhat similar issue with a computer I use with Windoze all the time. If I suspend to RAM and resume, the CPU temps start to rise QUICKLY and just keep going up and up until the system roasts. In my case the only way to reset it is to power off/on. Simply rebooting the computer has no effect. I have been on the phone to Tyan support (the m/b maker) numerous times but they claim they've never heard of the problem ever before.

I did discover that I had an old version of the bios.
I'm using VGA connector to my LCD TV (easier to setup than HDMI connector) with my nvidia 6200 card (DVI to HDMI cable).
During boot my bios info display is clipped on the left and right.

I thought the bios date displayed was 12/2005. (newest bios for the mb is 12/06/2005). But because of the clipped display I saw "2/2005", it was actually 03/22/2005.

I've flashed to the latest. I'll wait and see if this makes any difference.

Well no change with updated bios.

I wish I knew if this was a real temperature problem or just a sensor problem. Either way, my system fans tend to ramp up quite a bit.

In my case, it's real honest temperature. You can touch the CPU heatsink and get a nice burn! If you have the ability, try to determine if your problem is real or imagined by your CPU.
