I had done that but I removed and remade it incase I had made a typo.
in addition after the origional error if I run irsend again I get
could not connect to socket
connection refused
if I reboot I get the origional error once and if I try again I get the could not connect error.
very frustrating i have everything else working but if i can't get this to work then the box will get relegated to the bedroom.
Thanks for all the help any suggestions are appreciated

OMFG finally a step closer.
Kebe you got me on the right track thank you very much.
It was not working because setserial had to be run from /bin not /sbin
Not sure why but I changed that in my bootmisc.sh file and irsend now changes my box's channels.
Now to get myth doing it.

Ok one more problem
if I use the ch+ button on my remote the irsend goes crazy and keeps sending input all other buttons seem to work any suggestions

ok fixed that problem I had to remove
irsend --device=/dev/lircd1 SEND_ONCE $STB_NAME SELECT
and set autotune in my DCT2000 all is good now.
so how would I go about getting my other remote the newer hauppauge silver remote to work. I want it to work in addition to the grey one. So following the logic could I somehow set it up to work on node 61 1?
any ideas

I have executed the steps 1 to 10 and when I
run /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh, I receive this system error :

If you have a look at my previous post I had the same problem.
the setserial command is actually in /bin not /sbin
Change that line in bootmisc and see what happens

Now, I can change channel with my remote. 
but I always have snow on each channel
Here is my configuration :
mythtv-setup
4. Input connections
(tuner 0)
Input preference : 0
Esternal channel change command : /usr/local/bin/change_channel.sh
Preset tuner to channel : 03
Starting channel : 10
Do I have to set something else ?

Sounds like it is changing the channel on the tuner card still and sending the signal out the serial port. When you use your remote to change the channel and you get snow, try changing it back to channel 3 and see if you get a picture.
Also try running change_channel.csh from the command line with a channel# after it to verify it even works by itself.

I tried this HOWTO "How-to get an IR-Blaster working with KnoppMyth and other Debian-based Mythtv systems using Kernel 2.6" with both a Actisys 200L and a homebrew transmitter. I tried each one on com1 (3f8,4) and com2 (2f8,3). Every msg seems to indicate this is working, with the exception of
"BUG: using smp_processor_id() in preemptible [00000001] code: lircd/2485"
but using a digital camera, there is no IR being sent. It seems like there is no serial communications at all. Is there a known problem with R5A16?

I too was able to get this in my dmesg output using 5A16. Thinking it was something I did, I ended up just rebuilding the box and starting from scratch.
I have not yet re-attempted my home brew IR Blaster.
So close .....

Okay, pretty much followed all these directions, and can't seem to find where my issue lies.
If I do a clean reboot, and run
Code: irsend --device=/dev/lircd1 SEND_ONCE GUIDE 3
I get: Code:

I used http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/mot ... gitalCable for my cable box.
Anyone have any clue what I might be missing?
I have my remote working previouslly, and now I can't even get irw to show me anything when the remote buttons are pressed. I manage to break other items while trying to get IR blaster to work.
I am not so Linux savy so commands would help me greatly. =)
